Tampines
Changkat Community Centre Management Committee (CCMC)
set up the Tampines Changkat Senior Citizens' Club in
1989 to meet up the needs of the elderly residents.
The club has through the years organized various activities
to help senior citizens make retired life more meaningful.
Aside from the courses, talks, gatherings and tours
senior citizens participated in, they are encouraged
to reach out to the needy through various community
programmes.
Tampines Changkat SCEC members are directly involved
in the Home Nursing Foundation (HNF) Befriender Service,
Lion Befriender Services Group and Old Folks' Homes.
A group of senior citizens volunteer their services
at the Tampines Polyclinic Health Centre where they
help patients with their exercises and assist them in
taking their meals. Regular visits are also made to
Old Folk Homes and the homes of needy senior citizens
in Tampines GRC. The visitors bear gifts of food and
help out with chores when required.
Among the host of activities the senior citizens can
look forward to include the Chinese New Year gathering.
folk dance camp, education, shopping and holiday tours.
To encourage senior citizens to visit the community
centre and to keep them posted on the latest developments,
pot luck sessions are held once a week.
These activities have helped to create a strong bond
among the senior citizens in the constituency. The Tampines
Changkat SCEC extends a warm welcome to senior citizens
to join in the activities and enjoy an exciting time
in their twilight years. To date the strength of the
SCEC exceeds 2000 members.
