The
Malay Activities Executive Committee (MAEC) was set
up to look into bringing the Malay Community together
through the organisation of activities, courses and
functions. As an introduction to the residents, family
talks on moral education and on marriage were organised.
Classes such as curtain sewing attracted many Malay
participants.
In 1990, Tampines Changkat MAEC spearheaded the organisation
of the Haji Send-off reception on a GRC basis. The
organisation of this function was subsequently rotated
among the MAEC's of Tampines GRC. Another successful
GRC event organised by all the GRC MAEC is the annual
Hari Raya Celebrations.
The Tampines Changkat MAEC oversees the Soccer Club,
Sepak Takraw, Badminton, Dikir Barat, Kompang and
Malay Dance group. These activities helped to draw
the Malay community together and also allowed the
other ethnic communities in the neighbourhood a glimpse
of the Malay culture.
E.g.cultural
activities such as Dikir Barat helped to encourage
the Malay youth to come to the CC and they also performed
in many CC and constituency events.
The Tampines
Changkat MAEC also organises shopping trips to Johore,
Malacca, Kuala Lumpur and Tanjong Pinang regularly.
Local visits to mosques and welfare homes are popular
and attract many participants.
The Tampines
Changkat MAEC reaches out to children by organising
the annual Children's Camp at the CC. The camp is
full of learning activities and there is a campfire.
The children always enjoy themselves tremendously
while their parents also participate actively in the
camp activities.
The Tampines
Changkat MAEC will continue to look into organising
more activities to attract Malay residents to the
CC.
