OLE! TAMPINES ALIVE! PHOTOGRAHPY COMPETITION (Updated 26 Aug 2008)

To all photo enthusiasts, Tampines Changkat YEC is organising a Photography Competition in conjunction with OLE! TAMPINES!! by Tampines Town Council. The theme of the photo competition is Tampines Alive.

TALK ON 3 KINGDOMS (Updated 9 Sep 2008)

Tampines Changkat CCMC is organising a talk on 3 Kingdoms Talent Studies and Management in English on 27 Sept 2008 at Tampines Changkat Community Club Auditorium.

The speaker is Mr Stephen Ho, CCMC member, who holds a MBA. He will be using the story on the 3 kingdoms to illustrate the importance of talent management.

The fee for the talk is $2 for Passion Card Members and $3 for non members.

Tampines Changkat CCMC is organising a 5 days 4 nights Penang / Hatyai Tour on 24 to 28 Oct 2008.

The tour will include Air-con Coach transfers, meals, sightseeing and shopping. The cost of the tour ranged from $300 to $360.

ADAM KHOO LEARNING CENTRE (TAMPINES) OFFICIAL OPENING (Updated 29 June 2008)

Adam Khoo Learning Centre (Tampines) opened its first learning centre at Blk 106 Tampines St 11 on 31 May 2008. Ms Irene Ng, MP for Tampines GRC and Advisor to Tampines Changkat GROs, was Guest of Honour for the official opening. The opening of the centre was made possible through the tie up with Tampines Changkat Grassroots organisations.

Adam Khoo Learning Centre is one of Asiafs largest personal development training company. It provides personal development training programmes to people from all walks of life and ages. Two of its most popular programmes, The Success Coaching ProgrammeTM, and The Math and English MasteryTM Programmes will be offered at Adam Khoo Learning Centre (Tampines) among the many other programmes.

PM LEE @ TAMPINES CHANGKAT FAMILY CARNIVAL (Updated 20 May 2008) - Updated with Photo Link

Tampines Changkat welcomed PM Lee Hsien Loong to its constituency on 11 May 2008. He was warmly received by Ms Irene Ng, Minister Mah Bow Tan, Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Mr Ong Kian Ming, Mr Sin Boon Ann, MPs for Tampines GRC, and NE CDC Mayor Zainul Abidin Rasheed.

He visited the Tampines Family Carnival held at Blk 279, Tampines St 11 Round Market, and the Tampines Changkat Community Club.

During the visit, Tampines Changkat residents had the privileged to interact with PM Lee. PM Lee shared Mother's Day Celebrations, enjoyed hip hop performances by "The Break Force Crew", interacted with the Tampines Cycling Wardens, shared breakfast with elderly from Tampines Changkat ComCare Silver Connect Programme, and launched the new Tampines Round Market Voucher Programme. The event ended with a closed door dialogue with Tampines Changkat Grassroots leaders and volunteers and school students.

At the end of the event, PM Lee said he thoroughly enjoyed the visit and was very happy with the opportunity to interact with Tampines Changkat residents. He thanked all residents and Grassroots leaders for making the visit an enjoyable one.

TAMPINES FAMILY CARNIVAL (Updated 20 Apr 2008)

Come and join in the Tampines Family Day Carnival on 11 May 2008. The event is held at the Central Piazza beside Block 279 Tampines St 22. There will be rock climbing, hip hop dance, bicycle stunts, Mother's Day and family competitions, and special appearance by Tampines Rover FC players.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will be gracing the carnival as Guest of Honour. His visit is hosted by Ms Irene Ng, MP For Tampines GRC, and Advisor to Tampines Changkat GROs.

TOUCHÉ 2008: Connect and Engage (Updated 7 Apr 2008)

Touche 2008 (pronounced as gtoo-shayh [in French]) is an event organized by the Touche Committee with venue sponsorship and support from Tampines Changkat CC. It will be held on 8 June from 1pm to 7pm at Tampines Changkat CC Auditorium. MP for Tampines GRC, Ms. Irene Ng will be the guest of honor for the event.

Touche aims to serve as a platform the exchange of ideas amongst young people with a focus on youth issues and trends. Apart from the sharing and exchange of ideas, Touche aims to provide an avenue for expression, discussion and evaluation of ideas and culture through active audience participation and presentations that harness the power of interactive media.

This term is often used in popular culture and general conversation during an argument or debate. If a speaker presents an argument and another party delivers an apt response, he or she may respond with "touche" as a way of acknowledgment of the high quality of rebuttal of the responder.

Held at Tampines Changkat CC, Touche will have an open forum with question and answer sessions to allow audience interaction and participation.

Speakers will cover topics ranging from internet activism to entrepreneurship and social enterprise amongst youths.

Community Psychogeriatric Programme - Basic Training Workshop for SilverConnect Befrienders (Updated 20 Mar 2008)

Tampines Changkat Silver Connect, together with Changi General Hospital, is organising the above event under the MCYS ComCare and MOH Community Psychogeriatric Programme on 7 June 2008 at Tampines Changkat Community Club from 9.30am to 5.30pm..

The 1-day workshop, conducted in English, aims to equip Tampines Changkat Befrienders with skills to promote well being as well as recognising mental health problems in older persons. It is conducted by professionals from Changi General Hospital. These professionals include an occupational therapist, a medical social worker, medical doctor and a nurse.

Tampines Changkat YEC Wish Comes True (Updated 1 Mar 2008)

More than 40 children from Tampines Changkat constituency had their wishes comes true. This was made possible by Tampines Changkat Youth Executive Committee who organised the event and the more than 40 Grassroots Leaders who donated money.

The children's wishes ranged from bicycle, carom boards, school bags, to fishing boards. They received these gifts from Ms Irene Ng, Guest Honour of the event, MP for Tampines GRC and Advisor to Tampines Changkat GROs. The event certainly make the children very happy.

Tampines Changkat Volunteer Recruitment Campaign (Updated 1 Mar 2008)

People's Association is launching a campaign (poster) to recruit RC volunteers from 1 March to 31 May 2008. The campaign is an opportunity to explain the role and contributions of RC volunteers and by doing so, aim to get more people to join and do their part for the community as a RC volunteer.

Tampines Changkat Celebrates Lunar New Year (Updated 15 Feb 2008)

Tampines Changkat GROs celebrated Lunar New Year with a 9-course dinner at the newly renovated Tampines Changkat COmmunity Club air-con auditorium on 13 Feb 2008.

More than 400 residents joined in the celebrations with Ms Irene Ng, MP for Tampines GRC and Advisor to Tampines Changkat GROs, and friends of the constituency. During the dinner, Ms Ng wished all Tampines Changkat residents a happy Chinese New Year.

Besides the 9 course dinner, participants were also treated to powerful and yet graceful performances from the Han Zhou Dance Troupe.

Tampines Street 11 Round Market - Sunday Market Walkabout Ms Irene Ng (Updated 13 Jan 2008)

As part of her regular walk-about, Ms Irene Ng, MP for Tampines GRC,?greeted many residents at the Tampines Street 11 Round Market this morning, 20 January 2008. The round market is indeed the focal point for Tampines Changkat residents.?Many residents were enjoying their morning breakfast and shopping for?the coming Chinese New Year. You can also find many good deals at the weekly Sunday Market organised by the Tampines Street 11 Hawkers' and Merchants' Association.

 

? Pongal Vizhal 2008 (Updated 22 Jan 2008)

The Tampines Changkat CCMC Indian Executive Committee and the Women's Executive Committee jointly organised Pongal Vizhal 2008 at Tampines Changkat Community Club. There were traditional Indian dances, decorative painting, fancy dress competition, henna and decoration. The participants were also treated to a sumptuous Indian vegetarian buffet.

Ms Irene Ng, MP for Tampines GRC and ADvisor to Tampines Changkat Grassroots Organisations was the Guest of Honour for the event.

TAMPINES CHANGKAT Emergency Preparedness Day (Updated 6 Jan 2008)

Tampines Changkat Civil Defence Executive Committee (CDEC), together with Singapore Civil Defence Force and Tampines St 11 Merchants and Hawkers Association, successfully organised an emergency preparedness exercise on 1 Dec 2007.

The exercise simulated a gas attack within the round market. The Civil Defence trained hawkers and merchants promptly sprang into action evacuating residents from the market. The area is next cleared by Civil Defence personnel. All these were done very efficiently and professionally.

TAMPINES CHANGKAT AIDIL FITRI ALAF BARU 2007 (Updated 4 Nov 2007)

Tampines Changkat Malay Activities Executive Committee, together with Tampines Changkat Zone 3 and 4 RCs, organised a Aidil Fitri Dinner at Tampines Changkat Community Club. The dinner was attended by more than 400 guests. They were treated to a sumptuous buffer dinner and a very excellent stage show.

TAMPINES CHANGKAT BOOGIE WOOGIE DANCE FUSION COMPETITION (Updated 21 Oct 2007)

The Tampines Changkat Zone 4 Residentfs Committee is organizing a Tampines Changkat Boogie Woogie Dance Fusion Competition, held on 15 Dec 2007, at Tampines Changkat Community Club. A preliminary round from 1 ? 5pm will be conducted to determine the finalists for the Grand Finale Competition from 6 ? 10pm.

MP for Tampines GRC, Ms Irene Ng, will be present to grace the event, with an expected turn-out of 400 guests and participants. This is the one of the First initiatives by The Tampines Zone 4 Residentsf Committee to organize a dance competition of such nature in Tampines.

Trophies and cash prizes of up to $2,000 to be won! Participating teams of modern or hip hop dance should consist of no less than 4 members up to 10 members, with no age limit. Dialogue Session with Adviser Ms Irene Ng on CPF Charges (Updated 3 Oct 2007)

In the National Day Rally Speech, PM Lee Hsien Loong mentioned about CPF Changes that would benefit SIngapore's senior citizens in the long term.

So, what are these CPF Changes? How does it benefit me? Are there options for me?

These shall be addressed in an upcoming dialogue with Ms Irene Ng, Member of Parliament for Tampines GRC & Adviser to Tampines Grassrootsf Organizations on 25 October 2007 from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at the auditorium, Tampines Changkat Community Club. This dialogue session on CPF changes is open to all grassroots leaders and residents in Tampines Changkat constituency.

TAMPINES CHANGKAT Community Club (Updated 9 Sept 2007)

Tampines Changkat Community Club had a open house on 9 Sept 2007. The event included Health Screening, performances from the various CC's ethnic dance and orchaestra groups, Baby Race, and game stalls. More than 1000 Tampines Changkat residents attended the open house.

TAMPINES CHANGKAT Celebrates National Day with Dinner (Updated 18 August 2007)

Tampines Changkat constituency successfully celebrated National Day with a dinner on 5 August 2007 at Tampines Changkat Community Club.

More than 1000 Tampines Changkat residents attended the dinner. GOH is Ms Irene Ng, MP and Advisor to Tampines Changkat GROs. Other Guests include Mr Mah Bow Tan, Minister for National Development,, Mr Masagos Zulkifi BMM, Mr Ong Kian Min, Mr Sin Boon Ann and special guest Mr Yatiman Yusoff.

Guests at the dinner were treated to a sumptuous dinner as well as performances from East Spring Primary School Choir, Tampines Changkat Chinese Orchestra, Tampines Changkat Gu Zheng troupe, Malay Activities Executive Committee's Malay Dance group, the community club's Dance Club, etc.

Tampines Changkat CCC Bursary Ceremony (updated 19 June 2007)

On 16 June 2007, the Tampines Changkat CCC Welfare and Education Fund Committee successfully organized the Tampines Changkat CCC Bursary Awards Presentation 2007 at Tampines Changkat CC. About 400 students and parents attended the presentation.

The Tampines Changkat CCC Welfare and Education Fund Bursary Award is a meaningful exercise to recognize and reward students who have achieved good progress. It is also to motivate students from lower income families towards continued academic excellence in the years ahead.

Guest of Honour, Ms Irene Ng, MP for Tampines GRC and Adviser to Tampines GROs, graced the ceremony and awarded a total of 160 students from Primary 1 to Secondary 5, and ITE. The total quantum for this yearfs awards amounts to $26,650.

Dumpling Festival (updated 19 June 2007)

Dumpling Festival, also known as gDuan Wu Jieh, is a yearly celebration held by the Chinese to commemorate Qu Yuan, an official from the State of Chu in 4 th century B.C. Tampines Changkat Zone e1f and e2f RCs held a combined celebration at Tampines Tree Park on Saturday, 9 June 2007. The Guest of Honor was Ms Irene Ng, MP for Tampines GRC and Adviser to Tampines GROs. The event quickly attracted many residents and passers. Various bands entertained the audience and quizzes and lucky draws added to their delight. Especially popular was the magic act as well as the games stalls manned by the RC members at the edge of the Park.

Story @ The Void (updated 27 May 2007)

Tampines Changkat Zone 3 RC partnered RiverLife Community Services to organise a Story @ The Void programme for 100 students from Qiaonan Primary School on Saturday 26 May 2007.

In this interactive story-telling programme, the students attend a series of four sessions whereby they were taught moral values as well as?songs and art and craft. On the last session, the students will visit the elderly from the St Luke Eldercare Centre and entertain the elderly with songs and story-telling.

You can join in the following sessions on Saturday 2, 9 and 16 June 2007 at the pavillion in front of Blk 111 Tampines Street 11.

Launch of "Green Fingers Patch" (updated 27 May 2007)

As part of the School and?Community Anti-littering Network (SCAN), ?Qiaonan Primary School will work closely with Tampines Changkat Zone 3 RC to to get the residents and students in Tampines Changkat to participate and play a greater role in creating a cleaner environment to live in. In this programme, the students will adopt?community facilities such as the community vegetable garden and housing blocks and play an active role in maintaining the public cleanliness.

?The first collaboration is the Green Fingers Patch which was officially launched on Saturday 26 May 2007 by Ms Irene Ng, MP for Tampines GRC and Adviser to Tampines Grassroots Organisations.

The Great Singapore Sale '07 @ Tampines St 11 (updated 24 May 2007)

Tampines St. 11 neighbourhood centre is strategically located at just a 10 minutes walk from Tampines MRT station. The icon of this neighbourhood centre is the Tampines St 11 Round Market and Food centre. It offers residents a wide range of local food such as savoury dough fritters, traditional desserts and many other local foods. Our merchants also offer a myriad of goods and services which surrounds the market, all conveniently at merely one location. The neighbourhood centre has been serving the community for the past 24 years.

This GSS, the Tampines St. 11 Merchants and Hawkers Association brings excitement and fun with many attractive prizes by introducing the Spin and Win from 1 st June to 1 st July. During this period, with a single $5 spent, customers receive a coupon. $10 and above spent, customers will receive two coupons. An accumulation of 5 coupons will entitle them to 1 spin. Attractive prizes worth more than $10,000 are waiting to be won. Many of the prizes are sponsored by the hawkers and merchants of this neighbourhood centre in appreciation for the support given by their customers in all these years. The prizes include television sets, bicycles, food vouchers and many more! In addition, there will be a GRAND prize of 32ff LCD TV to be won on the last day of promotion, i.e. 1 st July 2007.

The exciting Spin and Win contest is held at the Customer Service Centre of Tampines St. 11 Round Market and Food Centre from 8.30 a.m. to 3 p.m., every Tuesday to Sunday. Customers simply have to bring their coupons to the Customer Service Centre in order to participate.

Apart from the Spin and Win contest, the market stall holders are giving away very special buys. Items like poultry, vegetables and fruits are gLelongh at 10 cents. Customers have a choice of exchanging their coupons for 10 cents vouchers at the Customer Service Centre. With these 10 cents vouchers, customers get to purchase items at only 10 cents at the participating stalls. The gLelongh promotion is held at the market from 9 a.m. onwards on Sundays.

This year, more than 100 shops and stalls in Tampines St 11 participate in the GSS. Customers who have won the cash vouchers can go to any of the participating stalls and shops to redeem for products, food and beverages.

On top of the GSSf07 @ Tampines St. 11 event, another highlight of the Tampines St. 11 ound Market and Food Centre during the Great Singapore Sale season in 2007 is the Heartland Tours. Working with the Singapore Retailers Association (SRA) in bringing tourists to our heartland adds not only vibrancy to our neighbourhood, it also introduces to the tourists our Singaporean lifestyle. In this tour, tourists get to experience both local food and authentic heartland shopping by visiting our Tampines St. 11 Round Market and Food Centre.

With such exciting and buzzling activities going on at Tampines St. 11 neighbourhood centre, it is definitely a happening place worth visiting during the Great Singapore Sale period.

Silver Connect Health Talk

Tampines Changkat Silver Connect organised a talk on How To Cope With Depression on Saturday 13 May 2007. 120 elderly from the Silver Connect attended the talk. Guest-of-Honour Ms Irene Ng was also present to encourage all the elderly to take part in more community activities and to approach her directly if they need assistance. Dr Colin Ngeow and Dr Kelvin Koh from St Luke's Hospital gave an insightful talk to all the elderly and were also treated to a high tea refreshment. Many elderly have feedback that the talk was useful and look forward to more talks in future.

RC Zone 1 Mother's Day Celebration

Tampines Changkat Zone 1 RC organised a Mothers' Day Celebration at the void deck of Blk 351 Tampines St 33 on Sunday 13 May 2007. About 200 residents attended the event and were treated to an enjoying time by the games, line dance/hip hop/Indian dance performances. The highlight of the event was the catwalk parade competition by mothers accompanied by their children. Ms Irene Ng, MP for Tampines GRC and Adviser to Tampines GROs was the Guest-of-Honour. Ms Ng commended the RC for organising the event successfully. There was a good multi-racial turnout and residents welcomed the event. More celebrations at the void deck will certainly be organised.

RC Zone 2 Walkabout at Blk 307 Tampines St 32 (25 April 2007)

A walkabout was organised at Blk 307 Tampines St 32 by the Tampines Changkat Zone 2 RC with Ms Irene Ng, MP for Tampines GRC and Advisor to Tampines Changkat GROs.

During the walkabout, Ms Ng met many residents and listened to their concerns and feedback. Residents also met Mr Henry Goh, Chairman of Tampines Changkat Zone 2 RC. They were also introduced to the many activities organised by Zone 2 RC such as senior citizens activities and block parties.

Irene Ng Basketball Challenge Trophy Tournament Final (7 April 2007)

The Irene Ng Basketball Challenge Trophy Tournament Final took place on 7 April 2007 at Tampines Changkat Community Club basketball court. The 1st/2nd game, 3rd/4th game, and an invitational female game were played. Ms Irene Ng, MP for Tampines GRC, was GOH for the event.

Tampines Town Hall Forum (Updated 8 Feb 2007)

The Tampines Town Council and Tampines Changkat Citizens' Consultative Committee successfully organised the second Tampines Town Hall on Saturday 3 Feb 2007 from 2pm to 5pm.

The Guest-of-Honour for the forum was Mr Mah Bow Tan, Minister for National Development and Adviser to Tampines Grassroots Organisations. The other advisers to Tampines Grassroots Organisations, Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Mr Ong Kian Min, Mr Sin Boon Ann and Ms Irene Ng will also be gracing the event.

The theme of this Town Hall Forum was "Let's Keep Tampines Clean". And it was a good opportunity for grassroots leaders and residents to brainstorm and feedback on the development of the Tampines Town particularly the cleanliness of the estate.

During the forum, an innovative programme was launched to showcase the close cooperation between schools and GROs in Tampines GRC in helping to make Tampines a cleaner place to live. At the same time, several residents posed many questions to Tampines GRC MPs regarding cleanliness of the estate. It was a very interactive sessions.

In the end, residents and GRLs alike learnt that 'Cleanliness is everyone's responsibility. Taking an active role in making the environment clean would make Tampines the best place place to live in'.

P.O.D Grand Opening (Updated 30 Jan 2007)

P.O.D (People of Destiny) will be officially opened on 20 Jan 2007 at Blk 316, Tampines St 33, #01-186, Singapore 520316 from 1.30pm to 6pm.

P.O.D ia an initiative by City Harvest Community Services Association and supported by Tampines Changkat Grassroots organisations. It is a cool place for youths to chill out with their friends. It is also a place that can help youths to pursue their destiny, dreams and aspirations through a variety of services and activities such as leadership training and development workshops.

Tampines Changkat St 11 Sparkling Christmas Light-up Ceremony (Updated 21 Dec 2006)

The Tampines St 11 celebrated the upcoming Christmas with a sparkling Christmas Light-up ceremony on 21 Dec 2006.

The Light-up is part of the Hawkers and Merchants Associations effort in Tampines GRC to bring 'Orchard Road' into Tampines.

The Light-up in the St 11 junction also signal the start of daily bazaar in Tampines St 11 Round Market. Sports Link, a sports apparel company, has put up a huge SALES right in the heart of the market.

Silver Connect ComCare First Anniversary Celebration (Updated 21 Dec 2006)

Tampines Changkat GROs celebrated the first anniversary of the launch of 'ComCare-Silver Connect Programme'.

The programme was initially launched with the aim of setting a comprehensive grassroots network to care for the elderly and to keep them engaged in the community. To date, the programme has recruited 160 volunteers to care for almost 600 elderly in Tampines Changkat.

Ms Irene Ng, MP for Tampines GRC, announced that going forward, full-time trained social workers will be employed to help manage the programme and the elderly in their social needs. This is to ensure that no elderly falls through the cracks of 'our' social net.

Mr Mah Bow Tan, Minister for National Development and MP for Tampines GRC, and Guest of the Honour for the event, announced that due to the success the the ComCare programme in Tampines Changkat, it shall be introduced to the entire Tampines GRC so as to benefit more of the needy elderly staying in Tampines.

Mr Mah also announced that due to the ageing population, all flats in Tampines shall be fitted with lifts on every floor by 2014, barrier-free accessibility in Tampines GRC by 2009, and more 3G (3rd generation) fitness parks to encourage elderly in Tampines to exercise and stay healthy.

Indeed, with all these in the pipeline, Tampines GRC will truly be

'Tampines, Our Best Home To Grow Old In'.

Emergency Preparedness Day (Updated 10 Dec 2006)

Tampines Changkat Civil Defence Executive Committee (CDEC), chaired by Mr Danny Ong, organised Emergency Preparedness (EP) Day together with HQ SCDF 2 Division and Changi Simei NPC for Tampines Changkat residents this morning 10 Dec 2006.

The silent morning at Blk 294 was interrupted by a loud car explosion. The explosion was part of an exercise demonstration by the different HOME TEAMs such as the police officers, paramedics, fire-fighters and hazmat personnel. Vehicles deployed during the exercise included an ambulance, a police vehicle, a Red Rhino, and a fire engine.

Besides the exercise demonstration, many events were also organised for EP Day. These included telematch, bike trials competitions, health screening, vehicular tour, CPR training, colouring competition, and many more.

Ms Irene Ng, advisor to Tampines Changkat GROs and MP for Tampines GRC was the Guest of Honour. During her speech, she noted that Tampines Changkat constituency has a high incidence of fire occurring in the rubbish chutes. She, therefore, urged residents to be more careful when throwing rubbish down the rubbish chutes.

Temasya Hari Raya 2006 (Updated 14 Nov 2006)

The Tampines Changkat Malay Activities Executive Committee (MAEC), together with the Tampines Changkat RCs/NC, organised the 'Temasay Hari Raya 2006' at Tampines Changkat Community Club Auditorium on 11 Nov 2006.

There were more than 500 guests from all races for the sit down dinner. Ms Irene Ng was the Guest of Honour for the event.

Guests were treated to performances by dancers from MAEC and singing by local artistes. The evening ended with a lucky draw.

Deepavali Celebrations (Updated 24 Nov 2006)

The Tampines Changkat CC Indian Activity Executive Committee successfully the Deepavali Celebrations on Sunday 5 November 2006 at the Tampines Changkat CC. About 250 residents participated and were treated to an entertaining variety show and sumptuous dinner.

TAMPINES CHANGKAT Celebrates National Day (Updated 13 August 2006)

Tampines Changkat celebrated national Day with an Observance Day Ceremony at Tampines Tree Park on 9 August 2006.

The event was jointly organised by the CCC and all RCs and was spearheaded by Tampines Changkat Zone '2' RC.

The downpour during the ceremony did not dampen the National Day spirit among the residents as they sang Happy Birthday to Singapore. The show continued with performances from East Spring Primary School's Indian Dance Group, Breakforce Hip Hop Dance group and Malay Cultural Dance group from the MAEC.

Racial Harmony Day @ Tampines Changkat (Updated 1 Aug 2006)

On 30 July2006, Tampines Changkat GROs celebrated racial harmony day at Tampines Changkat Community Club.

There were performances put up by the various ethnic groups, an ethnic cooking competition, and games stalls for everyone. There was also a costume competition by children from Tampines Changkat PCF Kindergarten.

The organising committee would like to thank all Tampines Changkat GROs volunteers and students from Tampines Secondary School who helped made this racial harmony day into a very successful event.

Autumn Nocturne Concert (Updated 1 Aug 2006)

Tampines Changkat Community Club Chinese Orchestra successfully organised the Autumn Nocturne Concert at the Singapore Conference Hall on 8 July 2006 7pm.

The 50 member strong orchaestra, from secondary to tertiery levels, played several classical and modern Chinese music compilations to an audience of more than 500 audience.

The audience enjoyed the evening so much that they shouted encore after the concert. The orchaestra relented and ended the evening by playing an additional 2 more songs.

 

Block Representatives Wanted (Updated 7 June 2006)

Tampines Changkat Grassroots Organisations are looking for Block Representatives in Tampines Changkat Constituency.

If you are a Singapore citizen, 18 years old and above, and residing in Tampines Changkat constituency, you are eligible to be your block representative.

The role of block representatives is essentially to represent and help the residents in your block in issues relating to your block and surrounding areas. In this unique role, you will get to know your residents living in your block and will be the conduit between your block residents and the Tampines Changkat Grassroots Organisations and relevant Government bodies.

Tampines Changkat 2006 Tamil New Year Celebration and 'Miss Tampines Changkat' Beauty Pageant (Updated 16 April 2006)

Tampines Changkat residents celebrated the Tamil New Year on 15 April 2006. The Tamil New Year, which fell on 14 April 2006, is an important date for Tamils. The celebration, at Tampines Changkat Community Club's hall, was organised by the Indian Activity Executive Committee, Malay Activities Executive Committee, Senior Citizens Executive Committee, and the Women Executive Committee.

The celebration also saw the first 'Miss Tampines Changkat' Beauty Pageant contest. 10 young and beautiful ladies residing in Tampines Changkat took part in the beauty pageant. Although there is only 1 'Miss Tampines Changkat', all the ladies who participated are themselves winners.

ComCare-Silver Connect Volunteer Recruitment Drive (Updated 4 Apr 2005)

Tampines Changkat ComCare-Silver Connect was launched on 26 Nov 2005 by Dr Vivian Balakrishnan (Minister for MCYS) and Ms Irene Ng (MP Tampines GRC). ComCare-Silver Connect is a comprehensive grassroots initiative to reach out to the needy or lonely elderly in Tampines Changkat. So far, a total of 370 elderly Tampines Changkat residents are participating in this programme.

The programme is open to all elderly residents living in Tampines Changkat. More information on joining can be obtained at all Tampines Changkat RCs and Tampines Changkat Community Club.

COMMUNITY HEALTH SCREENING (Updated 31 Mar 2006)

A health screening was conducted on Sunday, 26 March 06 for Tampines Changkat residents, especially older residents aged 50 and above, to help them take care of their health better. It is heavily subsidized to make it affordable to all. Residents only need to pay $2.00 for the screening which included blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol analysis, health history and counseling. More than 300 residents benefited from this health screening.

Budget 2006 CCC Meeting Briefing (Updated 7 Mar 2006)

Ms Irene Ng, advisor to Tampines Changkat GROs, briefed members of the Tampines Changkat Citizens' Consultative Committee on the budget 2006 during the monthly CCC meeting held on 7 March 2006.

Tampines Changkat Lunar New Year Dinner cum Variety Show (4 Feb 2006)

Tampines Changkat celebrated 2006 Lunar New Year with a dinner at Tampines Changkat Community Club on 4 Feb 2006. The Guest of Honour for the dinner was Ms Irene Ng, MP for Tampines GRC and Advisor to Tampines Changkat Grassroots Organisations.

More than 500 Tampines Changkat residents of all races attended the dinner. They were treated to a variety show featuring Tampines Changkat's own Chinese Orchestra, the Malay Activities Executive Committee's dance performance group and the Indian Activities Executive Committee's dance performance group.

They also each received the traditional red packet from Ms Ng and oranges from Grassroots leaders. And the dinner ended with a lucky draw to bring in good luck for the new year for all Tampines Changkat residents.

Ms Ng wished all Tampines Changkat residents good health and prosperity for the new year.

Tampines Changkat ComCare - Silver Connect Events at Istana (1 Feb 2006)

110 Tampines Changkat residents and volunteers visited the Istana and met President S R Nathan during the Istana Open House on 31 Jan 2006. The residents and volunteers are part of Tampines Changkat ComCare-Silver-Connect programme.

ComCare - Silver Connect aims to reach out to the elderly and draw them out from their eshellsf, and connect them with the community. Social activities, meals, home visits, and educational talks on ageing-related issues will be organised for them. This Tampines Changkat pilot programme, announced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in June 2005, lent support to the vulnerable needy elderly living in Tampines Changkat.

The programme is open to all elderly residents living in Tampines Changkat. More information on joining can be obtained at all Tampines Changkat RCs and Tampines Changkat Community Club.

Update : TAMPINES ROUND MARKET & FOOD CENTRE OPENING (Updated 1 Feb 2006)

Ms Irene Ng, together with Mr Mah Bow Tan and fellow Tampines GRC MPs, opened the newly renovated Tampines St 11 Round Market. Ms Ng thanked the Street 11 Hawkers and Merchants Association, City Gas, HDB and Tampines Town Council for making the renovation possible and on time for the 2006 Chinese Lunar New Year. The new facilities and features pleasantly enhances the marketing experiences of residents and making it more attractive to return for more marketing.
